Sometimes life can be hectic, and you may find yourself caught up in your own thoughts. It's easy to forget to breathe and take a moment to appreciate the beautiful world around us, which has been given to us.

Stress can bubble up like black tar in your mind, threatening to break your soul. That is when it's time to stop, and simply watch, listen, smell and breathe.

If you're able to get outside and feel the presence of nature, do so. If not, take a moment and close your eyes to listen to all the sounds the world has to offer. It may be loud, quiet, or a bit distressing. Take it all in and try to clear your mind. Just listen. Every thought that pops into your mind, think of them as fleeting as clouds drifting in the wind.

You can try looking out of your window to see people walking or trees swaying in the wind. Don't think. Let the world come to you.

Imagine for a moment that you were a stone on someone's path. Silent, thoughtless, just being without fear or to-do lists. Imagine yourself in the same way for a moment and use every sense you can, one by one, to feel, hear, listen, and smell.

A flock of birds flying and sitting on a roof, taken by evelyn underlake

Now for this days poem I will use a photo I've taken while walking in the city.

A momentary hug

A bird sits in silence.

He gets caught up by the air currents, flying higher and higher.

The moment has caught him in its arms.

The moment is precious, helpful.

The bird takes the moment to float on top of the world, to enjoy the ride in its soft hands.

Care for the precious moment, little bird.

Do not long the time in its embrace.

Do not forget to take its hand.

Cherish the moment, bird.
